Joseph Salvatore Sambataro (born January 20th, 1992) is an American singer/songwriter.

HISTORY

Born in Salem, MA in 1992 to Jim and Laurie Sambataro, Joe is of Sicilian heritage. His father was a well versed bass player in the New England region and exposed Joe to music from an early age.

Joe is a left handed guitar player. Because there were only right handed instruments available to him, he learned to play the guitar upside-down and backwards, a trait that he still carries. In 2008 Joe began playing in a locally known metal band "Spies Like Us" which gained notoriety with their 2009 track "Happy Endings Only Happen in Movies." The band disbanded in 2013.

In 2014 Joe began his side project "Joe Sambo and the Goonz" which became regionally popular in New England.

Signing to LAW Records, Name Change

In 2020 Joe caught the attention of LAW Records who signed him to a recording deal.

For generations, Joe's family was regionally known as the "Sambos" a disambiguation of their last name "Sambataro" and not a reference to the racially-tied derogatory statement. Following learning of the other meanings behind word, Joe immediately changed his stage moniker to "Joe Samba" which has stuck since then.

Touring and recordings

Joe Samba has toured with artists such as Fortunate Youth, Pepper, Passafire and The Hip Abduction.
