Joe Paul works in Indian Cinema, primarily Malayalam film industry.[1] as a lyricist. He began his film career in 2015 with the movie 'You Too Brutus'. Loved by music admirers, some of his noteworthy lyrics include 'Parayuvaan" (Ishq), "Madhu Pole", "Neerolam" (Dear Comrade), "Saare", "Podipaarana" and "Nenchinakathu Lalettan" (Queen), [2] etc.
Early Life and Background
Joe was born in Kunnamkulam, Thrissur, Kerala to P. P. Paul and Baby Paul. He grew up in Elamkulam, Kochi. His family loved, admired and appreciated all forms of art and encouraged Joe and his brothers in every way they can. Joe's childhood passion in singing and playing harmonium unveiled opportunities in School/University arts festivals and contemporary music competitions. His interest in music also led him to learn piano, violin and guitar for short stints.
Joe was inspired by his older brother Jibesh who was into writing poetry. It was in High School that Joe started writing poems. Many leading newspapers of the time featured his articles. Joe graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from The College of Horticulture, KAU, Thrissur, and Masters from The University of Minnesota, St. Paul, USA. He pursues his professional career in Human Resources. He is settled in Dallas (TX, USA) with his wife Dhanya and two boys, Samuel and Isaiah.
Writing Career
In 2000, Joe composed and wrote ‘Krooshitharoopam’, a devotional, his first-ever song to be recorded. He also composed, wrote, and sang for a few other devotional albums.
He made his debut as a lyricist in the Malayalam film industry in 2015 with the song ‘Raavukalil’ (Movie: You Too Brutus). Later in the year 2018, he wrote songs for the movie ‘Queen’. Composed by Jakes Bejoy, all songs that he wrote for ‘Queen’ especially ‘Saare’, ‘Podipaarana’, and ‘Nenchinakathu Lalettan’ were widely accepted by the audience.
In 2019, two of the songs that he wrote; ‘Parayuvaan’ (‘Ishq’) and ‘Madhu Pole’ (‘Dear Comrade’[3] composed by Justin Prabhakaran), both sung by Sid Sriram received tremendous love from the music admirers. They went on to become two of the chartbusters of the year.[4]
