Joe Holberg (born October 18th, 1987 in Lansing, Michigan) is a financial expert who created the first idea of the Financial Wellness benefits space,[1] which is the idea that global citizens deserve access to free, confidential, and unbiased financial education.[2] Holberg was also the innovator of the holistic and digital platform that aggregates financial information,[3] and built a technology platform that lets consumers gather their financial data in one place and receive a holistic assessment of how they are doing while providing personalized goals and recommendations to help consumers improve their overall financial wellness.[4][5] Holberg also created the idea of financial justice,[6] which was outlined in his 2018 EDx Talk.[7][8]

Authorship

Holberg authored the publication A Brief Discourse on the Definition and Tenets of Financial Justice,[9] and also penned "Rogue Finances: The "Un-system" Designed to Help You Become Financially Healthy, Successful, and Awesome, which were well received by financial professionals"[10]

"Joe uses irreverence and hilarious analogies to help fellow millennials learn how to improve financially." - Mike Frerichs, Illinois State Treasurer

Academics

Holberg is a former Google Computer Science Teaching Fellow,[11] on the platform called CS First. He has also taught middle school math on the West Side of Chicago, as Teach For America Corps Member, and created a loan underwriting system for the Capital Good Fund, one of the country’s largest micro-finance organizations.[12]

When I got into the working world, I had to learn every single thing by myself,” he said. “For instance, I had bought my college books with a credit card, not thinking about how I was going to pay them off. I had several experiences like that, which made me wonder why there aren’t more resources to teach people like me about finances.”[4]

Awards

Holberg was named one of Chicago’s 35 under 35 award recipients by Chicago Scholars in 2018.[13]
