Jody McLeod is an American politician. He was elected mayor of Clayton, North Carolina in December 2003.[1]
Early Life and Education
McLeod is a graduate of Clayton High School[1] and East Carolina University, from the latter of which he holds a bachelor of science in business management.[2]
Political Career
Mayor McCleod was the first mayor of Clayton to serve a four-year term.[3] He has been mayor since 2003 and is currently serving his sixth consecutive term, which expires in 2027.[1][4] As of 2016, he was the highest paid elected official in Johnston County.[5] One of Mayor McLeod’s focuses as mayor has been to get Chick-fil-A to open a location in the town of Clayton, stating, “That has literally been a goal of the town council. On the record, a goal. And we can’t get it, because we don’t have enough people in a five-mile radius.”[6]
Prior to being elected mayor he served as a Councilmember from December 1993 – December 1997 and Mayor Pro Tem from December 1995 – December 1997.[1]
TV Career
Jody and his mother appeared in a promo for the ABC Comedy, The Mayor, having been discovered through the town’s Spotlight on Clayton YouTube videos.[7][8]
Personal Life
Jody is the owner of Annie V’s florist[9] in Clayton and is the Director of the North Carolina State Florists Association.[10]
