Joanne Rebecca Westwood (born 4 August 1993)[1] was a Welsh international field hockey player who played as a defender for Wales women's national field hockey team.[2]
Personal life
Joanne Westwood was born and raised in Cardiff, Wales.
In addition to hockey, Westwood also used to play cricket for Wales national cricket team|Wales.[3]
Career
Club Hockey
Joanne began playing hockey for her local club Whitchurch Saints[4] before joining Swansea Hockey Club in 2010[5]. She has also played for Holcombe Hockey Club in the Womens Premier Division finishing 2nd in 2019[6][7] and East Grinstead Hockey Club in 2021 competing in two EuroHockey club trophies.[8]
Westwood plays club hockey in Division 1 (South) of the Vitality National League for Sevenoaks Hockey Club.[6]
National Team
Joanne played for Wales under 16’s, and captained the Under 18’s in the Euro Hockey Youth Championship 2nd Division, earning a silver medal and promotion to Division 1 in 2011. She then went on to play for the Under 21’s before making her senior international debut for Wales in September 2012, with continued appearances each year.[9][10]
She went on to represent Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games[11], 2018 Commonwealth Games[12] and 2022 Commonwealth Games[13][14]
