Joanne Hockley (born February 1973) is an English amateur golfer. She won the 1992 Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, the 1991 English under 18's and under 21's Strokeplay Championship, the 1996 Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship[1] and the 1996 English Women's Amateur Championship.[2] She played for Great Britain and Ireland in the Espirito Santo Trophy in 1992 and the Vagliano Trophy in 1993.

Golf career

Hockley played for England in the Girls Home Internationals in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. From 1987 until 1991, she won the Suffolk Girls Golf Championship consecutively.[3] In 1990, she was runner-up to Caroline Hall in the English Girls final, losing at the 20th hole and later that year went on to win the Midland Women's Championship. In 1991, she represented England Girls in the European Championships and in the same year she made her England Women's debut in the Home International's. Hockley represented England in the Home International's in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1996 and in a total of eight England Home International teams, at Junior and Senior level, she was part of an England winning team seven times.

In 1992, she made the final of the English Women's Amateur Championship and once again lost to Caroline Hall in the final by one hole. Later in the same year she won the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Frilford Heath[4] and was selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the Espirito Santo Trophy (World Amateur Team Championships)[5] in Vancouver, Canada, alongside Catriona Matthew (nee Lambert)[6] and Joanne Morley[7] Captained by Mary McKenna MBE[8] the team went on to win the silver medal losing out on the gold medal to Spain by 1 stroke.

In 1993, Hockley represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy[9] at Morfontaine, Paris. She was part of the winning team that beat the Continent of Europe [10]. In the same year, she won the Suffolk Ladies County Championship. In 1995, she finished 3rd in the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and in 1996 she returned to winning ways with multiple titles; the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship at Royal Troon, Suffolk Ladies County Championship, the Wentworth[11] Scratch and the 1996 English Women's Amateur Championship at Silloth on Solway, where she was made an honorary lifetime member.

At the end of 1996, Hockley turned professional but was unable to continue with a professional career due to injuries.[12] In 1998, she won the Suffolk Ladies County Championship [13] and retired from County Golf that same year. She has continued to make appearances at County level including the English Women's County Finals, which were played at her home club in Suffolk in 2017.

In 2020, Hockley became President of Suffolk Ladies Golf Association.[14]

Hockley is member at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club,[15] Suffolk, which is one of the oldest club's in England dating back to 1880. She is also a voluntary Director of the club.
