Jo-Ellan Dimitrius is a legal consultant and jury expert famous for her involvement in the advancement of scientific jury selection and it's applications in criminal law. Notably, she was involved in the OJ Simpson jury selection and offered her services during the Kyle Rittenhouse for the defense. [1]

Jo-Ellan Dimitrius used surveys to determine the ideal defense juror demographic (black women) and analyzed and judged the prospective jurors' answers to a Jury questionnaire and response and body language during voir dire (the stage of jury selection where lawyers are permitted to directly question the jury).

History

Jo-Ellan Dimitrius received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 from Scripps College in Claremont, California. [2] She received her Masters in 1977 from Claremont Graduate School, and her Ph.D. in 1984 from Claremont Graduate School where her doctorial dissertation was “The Representative Jury: Fact or Fallacy”.

Her first trial as a consultant was in 1984. She has consulted in over a thousand trials according to her own count.

Published Works

Dr. Dimitrius has written three books. The first book she co-authored, entitled Reading People, was released in June 1998 by Random House. Put Your Best Foot Forward, a follow up, was released in February 2001 by Simon & Schuster. Dr. Dimitrius also co-authored a book entitled Jury Selection in Civil and Criminal Cases, which is a West publication targeting the legal audience. [3]
