In 1970, Jimmy Rane founded Great Southern Wood Preserving Inc. in Abbeville, Alabama, Rane's hometown. The business later grew to be one of the largest lumber producers in the Southeastern United States. [2]

Personal life
Orginially, Jimmy Rane was a law student; he had gotten into the lumber business by accident because he stepped in to mediate a family dispute, causing him to take control of a small fence post manufacturer.
