Jihad Bakkoura is a Syrian watch inventor.

Early life

Born and raised in Damascus, Jihad Bakkoura initially emerged as a rebellious teenager, rejecting the title "Ibn Al-Hajjah" given to his father. Instead, he tried to establish himself as an evening fashion designer in his mother's shop, 'Al-Hajja Badriya'.

He undertook a trip to Russia, where he worked in various industries and demonstrated his presence through business and involvement with tourists. After leaving Syria, Bakkoura spent several years in Russia, working in various professions and learning new skills. In Russia, Bakkoura opened a women's bag factory and continued working there until 2004. However, the death of his mother, Badriya, marked a turning point in his life. He closed the factory, as he felt he had wasted the time he should have spent with her.

Watchmaking career

Bakura's interest in watches was initially influenced by his father, but he only began to seriously consider this field after receiving a luxury watch from a friend.

In 2017, Bakkoura purchased the entire Franc Vila company, restoring and relaunching it into the market, renowned for its watchmaking craftsmanship. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career. Bakkoura began selling Frank Vila watches in Russia and continued to travel around the world, visiting factories and learning the importance of watches to people. He sold a villa in Syria to obtain four Franc Vila watches, launching his career as a consultant for Swiss brands in Russia.

Bakkoura Brand

Bakkoura launched the "Bakkoura" brand in 2019. He even involved designers who were blind from birth in the creation of distinctive watches, such as the emoji watch and the princess watch. Bakkoura has her own watch shop in the heart of Moscow as "Badreya" (her mother's name)and emphasizes the importance of the soul and time in the East. This philosophy has influenced his view of watchmaking. A notable innovation was the creation of a reverse clock that follows the rotation system around the Kaaba, in tune with the cosmic order.

30 hours project

Among his most striking creations, Bakkoura developed a watch with a day extended to 30 hours, challenging the traditional 24-hour subdivision and also introduced a watch with a single second hand, offering a unique representation of time.[1]
