Jiann-Wen Woody Ju is a senior tenured full Professor of civil and environmental engineering at UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Early life and education
He obtained his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.[1]
Career
As a senior tenured full professor at University of California, Los Angeles, he previously held the position of department chair for civil and environmental engineering.[1]
From 1995 to 2002, he held the position of Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Engineering Materials & Technology and the ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Acta Mechanica,[2] Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics,[3] and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Damage Mechanics.[4]
He was awarded the Presidential Young Investigator Award by the White House and NSF in 1991, and the Alfred Rheinstein Faculty Award by Princeton University.[1] In addition, he received 1998 ASME Fellow Award, 2000 ACI-James-Instruments Award in NDE, 1997 ASCE Walter Huber Civil Engineering Research Award, 2006 ASCE Fellow Award, 2007 USACM Fellow Award, 2008 ACI Fellow Award, Award of Merit for Publication from the Structural Engineers Association in 2008, IACM Fellow Award for 2010, 2013 ICACM Award, ICDM-3 Lifetime Achievement Medal (2018), EU Academy of Sciences Member (2018), EMI Fellow Award (2020) etc.[1] He was also pointed as Chang-Jiang Scholar Chair Professor during 2009-2012, 2010 Kwang-Hua Chair Professor (Tongji University), 2011-2013 Tongji University Chair Professor, National 1000 Talents Program (Short-Term) Distinguished Chair Professor (2013-2017), Guangxi University Distinguished Chair Professor (2013-2021), and Tongji University Distinguished Chair Professor (2013-present), Honorary Distinguished University Professor from Southwest Jiaotong University (2015-present).[1]
He authored over 200 scientific journal papers indexed in the SCI database.[1] His work has been cited over 11,809 times according to Google Scholar.
His research interests and projects include structural mechanics, structural engineering, computational mechanics, healing and fracture mechanics, computational damage, composite micromechanics and nanomechanics, multiscale material modelling, finite element method, biomechanics, geotechnical engineering, computational geomechanics, reliability, NDE, service life predictions, durability of concrete and cementitious composites, environmental assessment, risk assessment, multiphase porous flow and transport, and coupled wind-wave-bridge interactions and damage effects, etc.[1]
