Jiří Jaromír Klemeš (born in 1945, Brno, Czechoslovakia).[1] is a mechanical (MSc) and chemical engineer (PhD) and academic who has made a substantial contribution in the field of Total Site Heat Transfer, Heat Exchange and Process Integration, as well as environmental assessment targeting at sustainable development.

Life and research activity

Jiří Jaromír Klemeš studied at Brno University of Technology and gained his PhD in 1977. He worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, from 1991 to 2008, and Senior Project Officer and Honorary Reader at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and The University of Manchester. From 2007 to 2010, he also worked as the EC Marie Curie Chair of Excellence Holder (EXC). He was the Head of the Centre for Process Integration and Intensification – CPI2 at University of Pannonia[2] from 2015 to 2017.

Since 2017, he has been the head of “Sustainable Process Integration Laboratory – SPIL[3]”, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology. At the same time, he is also an Emeritus Professor at the “Centre for Process Systems Engineering and Sustainability” in the Pázmány Péter Catholic University[4] and University of Pannonia[5].

He is also the Co-Editors-in-Chief[6] of the scientific journal Journal of Cleaner Production.

Recognitions and Awards

His work was recognized by five Honorary doctorates, including the University of Maribor, Kharkiv National University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, Russian Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology, and the University POLITEHNICA Bucharest.

In 2015, he was awarded as “Honorary Doctor of Engineering” at the University of Technology, Malaysia, and “EFCE Lifetime Achievement Award 2015” by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering[7].

In 2018 and 2019, Jiří Jaromír Klemeš was awarded as the Top Handling Editor and Reviewer[8], as well as Highly cited researcher in the Cross-field[8] by Publons.
