Jerry Hauser (born September 11, 1968) is an American social justice leader who co-founded The Management Center with Peter Lewis in 2006.[1] He served as CEO of the organization for 15 years.[2][3] Hauser is the co-author of Managing to Change the World: The Nonprofit Manager's Guide to Getting Results.[4] Before founding The Management Center, he served as the Chief Operating Officer at Teach For America.

Education

In 1990, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Duke University.[5] Hauser graduated from Yale Law School in 1996. While pursuing his JD, Hauser served as senior editor of the Yale Law Journal and was co-president of Yale's Initiative for Public Interest Law.[6]

Career

Before graduating from Yale Law School, Hauser taught math and history at Compton High School in Compton, CA, as one of 500 charter teachers for Teach For America.[6] After receiving his JD, he went on to work for McKinsey & Company.[6]

Hauser became Chief Operating Officer of Teach For America in 1998, serving as second in command to then TFA CEO Wendy Kopp. During his 7 years at the organization, he increased the number of people who applied to the teaching corps from 3,000 to 17,000, and increase annual donations by almost 500% to $38 million annually.[6] He also convinced Elisa Villanueva Beard to apply to be the Executive Director of the Rio Grande Valley area, and she now serves as the national CEO.[7] [8]

In 2006, he founded and ran The Management Center to help social justice leaders build and run effective, equitable, and sustainable organizations. When he left as CEO in 2021, the organization served over 15,000 individuals and 400+ organizations annually through management coaching and training.[9]

He currently serves on the board of Protect Democracy,[10] and is a part-time Senior Advisor at The Management Center.[3]

Personal Life

Hauser is married to Liza Goitein, has two twin boys, and currently lives in Washington, DC.[11]
