Jericho Project is a New York City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness by enabling individuals and families experiencing homelessness to attain quality housing, employment, and long-term self-sufficiency.[1]
History
Jericho Project was founded in 1983 to address homelessness in New York City through a model centered on permanent housing paired with comprehensive supportive services.[1] Initially focused on serving homeless veterans, the organization has expanded over four decades to serve a broader population that includes individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, families, and young adults.[2]
Over time, Jericho Project has developed and operated permanent supportive housing across New York City while expanding its service offerings to include rapid rehousing, employment and workforce development, clinical mental health services, and housing retention programs. The organization works closely with city, state, and federal agencies as well as private-sector and philanthropic partners to develop supportive housing and deliver services that promote long-term housing stability.[3]
Today, Jericho Project is one of New York City's established supportive housing providers, serving thousands of New Yorkers annually through both residential and community-based programs.
Key People
Tori Lyon, CEO: Lyon joined Jericho Project as Director of Development in 1996. She advanced to Associate Executive Director in 1999, Executive Director in 2005, and CEO in 2016. She has led Jericho’s strategic planning, fundraising, housing and program development, and executive management, leveraging her 30 years of experience in the supportive housing sector to more than quadruple the number of people the organization has served since 2010. Under her leadership, the organization has developed more than 700 units of permanent supportive housing and launched a nationally recognized Veterans Initiative.[1]
Michael Reed, Board President: Reed had been a Jericho Project Board Member for nearly 14 years before being named Board President in September 2024. In addition to serving as Treasurer, he chaired Jericho Project’s Finance and Audit Committees. In 2022, Reed received the Legacy Award in recognition of his contributions to Jericho's financial stability and the effective direction of funds toward permanent supportive housing and transformational services. Previously, he served for 10 years as a Senior Quantitative Researcher and Portfolio Manager at Zebra Capital Management, following a long career as a Principal at MJ Reed Investment Consulting and as a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley.[4]
Services
Jericho Project provides permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, workforce development, clinical mental health services, and a range of supportive programs designed to help people achieve housing stability and improve their overall well-being. It serves veterans, young adults, families, and individuals experiencing chronic homelessness throughout New York City.[5][6]
In addition to operating permanent supportive housing residences, Jericho Project provides community-based services that help participants secure employment, access behavioral health care, and maintain stable housing. Jericho Project also partners with public agencies, private foundations, corporations, and community organizations to expand housing opportunities and advance solutions to homelessness.
