Jeremy Courtland "Sheets" Sheetinger (born March 21, 1981) is an American college baseball coach and administrator. He is currently the head coach of the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies and the manager of the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Playing Career

Sheetinger attended Franklin County High School in Frankfort, Kentucky, earning All-County honors in 1998 and 1999. As a senior in 1999, he batted .430 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.[1]

Sheetinger appeared in 31 games across three seasons for Kentucky Wesleyan College from 2002 to 2004, batting .186 with a home run. He served as team captain during his senior season.[2][3]

Coaching Career

Early Career

In 2005, after graduating from KWC, Sheetinger joined the coaching staff at Georgetown College, where he coached outfielders and hitters.[4]

In 2006, he became the hitting coach at Brescia University, where he helped the Bearcats to a school record .326 team batting average.[5] He also served as the associate head coach and pitching coach of the Owensboro Oilers of the KIT Summer Collegiate Baseball League, helping the team to the 2006 league championship.[6]

In 2007, Sheetinger joined John Cohen's staff at University of Kentucky as an administrative assistant. He was promoted to director of baseball operations for the 2008 season and held that same position through the 2010 season.[7]

In 2011, he became the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Saint Joseph's College.[8]

Spalding University

In 2013, Sheetinger was named the head coach at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. In three years at the helm, he led the Golden Eagles to an 86-43 record, highlighted by a program-best 33 wins in 2013.[9]

In September of 2015, Sheetinger left Spalding to join the American Baseball Coaches Association. He later said that, leaving Spalding with a family on the way, he thought he would never coach college baseball again.[10] He also took a job as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves beginning in 2015.[11]

Georgia Gwinnett College

In July 2019, Sheetinger returned to the coaching ranks when he accepted the head coaching position at Georgia Gwinnett College for the 2020 season, succeeding Brad Stromdahl.[12][13]

In 2020, Sheetinger lead the Grizzlies to a 23-2 record in an abbreviated season (Due to the COVID-19 pandemic). After a 1-2 start, Sheetinger's team rattled off a school-record 22 consecutive wins to end the year ranked No. 3 in the NAIA.[14]

Sheetinger didn't skip a beat in 2021, his first full season as GGC's head coach. He guided the team to a dominant 51-10 season, capped by a victory over Central Methodist University that clinched the program's first-ever NAIA national championship. Sheetinger's 2021 GGC team won all five of its NAIA World Series games en route to the title, and led the NAIA in four different offensive categories.[15]

For his efforts directing the Grizzlies' historic season, Sheetinger was named the 2021 Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year by the College Baseball Foundation, becoming the first NAIA coach honored in the award's history.[16]

Sheetinger skippered GGC to the NAIA World Series twice more in 2022 and 2023, compiling a total record of 96-24 across the two seasons, but the team fell both times to Webber International University and Indiana Wesleyan University, respectively.[17]

Under Sheetinger, four GGC players have been named NAIA All-Americans and four more have been named honorable mentions for the distinction.[18][19][20] Grizzlies outfielder Ajay Sczepkowski was named the NAIA's National Player of the Year under Sheetinger's tutelage in 2023.[21]

International Baseball

In September 2021, Sheetinger joined USA Baseball as a guest coach for the 15U National Team Trials in Cary, North Carolina.[22]

In June 2023, Sheetinger served as a coach and scout for USA Baseball's prospect development task force during the U17 East Championships and 2023 Prospect Development Pipeline League in Cary, North Carolina.[23]

In early August 2023, he joined Drew Spencer's Great Britain national team staff as an assistant coach for the WBSC U23 European Championships in Vienna, Austria, where he helped Team GB qualify for its first ever WBSC U23 Baseball World Cup.[24]

In late August 2023, Sheetinger joined Michael Cuddyer's staff as an assistant coach and talent evaluator for the USA Baseball U18 National Team Training Camp in San Juan Capistrano, California.[25]

Chatham Anglers

On August 21, 2023, Sheetinger was named manager of the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, succeeding Tom Holliday.[26]

Administrative Career

Sheetinger joined the American Baseball Coaches Association as an administrator in 2015. With the ABCA, he oversaw coaches and school administrators at the small college (Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College) level. He also directed the organization's communication and social media efforts.[27]

Sheetinger hosted three shows during his tenure with the ABCA. Video programs "The Road Show" and "Extra Innings" featured on-camera interviews with coaches, while the "Calls from the Clubhouse" podcast used conversations with guests to take a deep dive into the intricacies of coaching.

During Sheetinger's tenure heading communications, outreach, and social media, ABCA membership rose by 200 percent and attendance at the association's major coaching conferences nearly tripled.[28]
