Jen Fraser (born Jennifer Lynn Fraser, 14 August 1975) is a British–Australian non-fiction author, illustrator, inventor, and speaker. Her work focuses on originality, creative problem solving, and innovation. She is the founder of Outthinx, an Australian training business centered on originality as a contemporary professional skill. As the author and illustrator of multiple books, Fraser's work has received independent publishing awards and international distribution.

Early Life and Background

Fraser was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She spent her early life in Brisbane before relocating to the United Kingdom, where she lived in London between 2006 and 2013. She later returned to Australia and currently resides in Goodna, a suburb of Ipswich, Queensland. She holds Australian citizenship and acquired British citizenship in 2012.

Career

Fraser began her professional publishing career in 2014 with the release of her debut non-fiction book, Everyone’s a Genius – Simple Tips to Boost Your Brilliance Now.[1][2] The book was published on 9 November 2014, coinciding with the centenary of inventor and actress Hedy Lamarr’s birth. The publication features more than 50 original illustrations by Fraser and includes endorsements from authors and commentators including Seth Godin, Piers Anthony, Lynette Nusbacher, and Andrew Griffiths.

In addition to writing, Fraser has worked as a speaker and trainer in originality and creative thinking. She founded Outthinx, an Australia-based organization that provides training and educational programs related to originality and innovation in professional and educational contexts.

In 2018, Fraser undertook practical experimentation related to originality methodologies, which later resulted in the development of a mechanical invention. This work led to the filing of patent applications in Australia and internationally.

On 24 December 2025, Fraser published CopyCat: How to Escape Status Quo Thinking and Lead the Field. The first edition includes approximately 80 illustrations by the author and features a foreword by aerospace scientist Dr. Patrick “Paddy” Neumann of Neumann Space. A teaser edition was released concurrently, designed to function as a themed colouring book.

Invention and Patents

Fraser is listed as the inventor on a mechanical actuator mechanism.[3][4] A provisional patent application was submitted in Australia on 11 May 2021 under application number 2021901395. A subsequent international patent application was filed on 5 May 2022 through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), under application number PCT/AU2022/050422.

The invention is described as a mechanical lever system that alters conventional directional force application. According to Fraser’s published description, the mechanism introduces an alternative force axis while maintaining mechanical advantage. The invention remains under patent examination in Australia.
