Jeffrey D. Senese (born November 26, 1959) is a higher education administrator who serves as the tenth president of Caldwell University, an independent Catholic and Dominican University in New Jersey. He was selected by the Board of Trustees on July 9, 2023 and will be formally installed as president on March 21, 2024.

Early life and education

Senese was born on November 26, 1959, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. The first member of his family to attain a post-secondary education degree, Senese graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1982. He then attended Indiana State University on an academic assistantship with the Department of Criminology earning an M.A. in Criminology in 1988. Following that Senese attended Michigan State University on an academic fellowship earning a Ph.D. degree from the School of Criminal Justice in 1992. Senese also has completed the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University as well as the president's institute.

Career

Senese served as a full-time faculty member at Indiana University from 1988 to 1990. He then taught and was and administrator at the University of Baltimore teaching criminal justice, criminology and statistics from 1990 to 1999 where he was tenured. Senese then served as the Director of Academic Affairs at Penn State Wilkes Barre where he was also tenured. He then served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor at Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts concluding that service in 2005. Dr. Senese then served Philadelphia University (Now Jefferson University) as its Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty and Professor completing that service in 2009. Senese then served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Vice Provost at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island completing that service in 2013 and was appointed Provost and Professor at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin completing his service in 2018. From Cardinal Stritch University Senese was appointed president of Saint Leo University through 2022 and then the Chief Innovation Officer of Corvus Education.Senese currently serves as the tenth president of Caldwell University since July 2023. Under his leadership, so far, Caldwell University has improved its ranking regionally and it continues to serve the Hispanic community as an HSI as well as provides broad opportunity to a diverse student population in undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs across a range of disciplines.

Professional organizations

Senese has served on the board of directors for a variety of organizations, and community groups, such as the Milwaukee Urban League, Omicron Delta Kappa Board, Chair of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference's President's Council, Secretary of the Florida Independent Colleges Assocation, Board of Directors of Enterprise Florida and a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

Awards and recognitions

Senese has authored hundreds of professional publications and articles and has delivered talks globally. He completed a Fulbright program in Hong Kong and has traveled extensively throughout China and Europe for his universities as well as worked with several institutions in South Africa. He has also completed several million dollars in research grants on various topics including the study of the use of force and gang violence. In addition, he has worked with various members of Congress to secure more than $40 million dollars in earmarks and grants over his career so far and has raised more than $20 million dollars from individual donors and friends.

Senese has been awarded the key to the City of Tampa, Florida, named a Florida Trend Magazine 500 most influential leaders, named to the Tampa Business Journal's Power 100 and has been cited for service by the Governor of Maryland, Baltimore City Council and the Mayor of Baltimore.
