Jeff Mac Mootry (born July, 1964) is a retired Netherlands Marine Corps one-star general who served as the 58th Commandant of the Netherlands Marine Corps from August 25, 2017 to December 11, 2020. During his command he sat at the table with the staff of USMC and the Royal Marines(UK). These meetings are known as the [1]
Jeff Mac Mootry joined the Netherlands Marine Corps in August 1985. As a junior officer he completed the Dutch commando course and military parachutist training and qualified for Mountain- & Arctic Warfare. Within the operating forces he served as a rifle and mortar platoon commander, company 2IC, company commander and Commanding Officer, 2nd Marine Battalion. He participated in missions in Cambodia (UNTAC), Haïti (UNMIH), Bosnia (SFOR) and Afghanistan (ISAF). Other assignments include: Commanding Officer Marine Barracks Savaneta (Aruba), Policy Advisor in the staff of the Royal Netherlands Navy and Chief of Cabinet (executive assistant) for the Chief of Defence. He also served in the Joint Special Operations branch.
Mac Mootry’s decorations include the Legion of Merit (degree Commander) of the United States of America and the French Médaille de la Défense nationale (in Gold).
He retired from the Corps at August 1, 2023.
