Jaykishan Plaha (born February 16, 1996) is a semi-professional cricketer from United Kingdom who has gained popularity on social media platforms as an influencer and YouTuber. His playing style is characterized by his aggressive batting and fast-paced bowling. On his YouTube account, "Itsyourboyjayman," he has documented his training and return to the sport journey, amassing over 25,000 subscribers.[1][2]

Plaha is a talented cricketer with an inspiring comeback story. He overcame mental health challenges and is now an advocate for promoting awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Early life and education

Plaha was born and raised in London, England. He is a practicing Hindu and Sikh; his family, originally from Punjab, emigrated to the UK from Kenya and India. Plaha's cricketing journey started at the age of three, and he captained his school team during his teenage years. He was a youth cricketer for British Airways until the age of 17.

Career

Plaha started playing cricket on a semi-professional level in 2017. Since then, he has worked as a net bowler for several teams. He played in the World Cup in 2019, and in 2022, he represented V11 in the Sharjah Cup. Plaha has consistently scored over 1000 runs in a season and has achieved over 50 runs in overseas tournaments and leagues in countries such as the USA, Dubai, Malta, India, Spain, and England.

Plaha's pace bowling developed quickly, and he was accepted into the National Fast Bowling Academy in 2018. However, his career was affected by a net bowling accident with David Warner in 2019.[3] In addition, he faced mental health issues from 2020 to 2021, and he now works to break the stigma surrounding it. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, Plaha began documenting his comeback journey on his YouTube and TikTok channels "Itsyourboyjayman," where he has over 25k followers.[4][5]

Plaha has played cricket in various countries, including India, the USA, Malta, Dubai, and Australia. He has also taken part in practice sessions with international teams, including India, England, Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. In addition to this, he spent time with the Indian Premier League team, the Kolkata Knight Riders.[6][7]

Plaha is an all-rounder in one-day and contemporary Twenty20 cricket, with an aggressive batting style and bowls with fearful pace. He began his career as an opening batsman, where he trained with international teams. Plaha has represented top division teams across the Middlesex and Surrey premier leagues. In his short but impressive season last year, with over 500 runs scored in just 7 innings and a best score of 132 not out, he is amongst the prolific run scorers within batting rankings of club cricket.
