Oladotun Oyebadejo Jr. (born March 28, 1988), better known by his stage name Jay Kurzweil, is an American record producer, recording and mixing engineer. Kurzweil has produced records for artist such as Bas, Masego, Zayn, and Cozz. He engineered GoldLink's "Crew" featuring Brent Faiyaz, as well as SZA's "Love Galore" featuring Travis Scott, both of which went on to receive Grammy nominations[1]
Career
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in electrical engineering, Kurzweil moved to Southern California, opened a studio in Los Angeles and began working with local artists[2] and connecting with LA based music executives.
J Cole, after being played a batch of Kurzweil's beats by Matt McNeal, who at the time worked at UMPG, sent some of those ideas to his new signee Bas. One of them would go to become a record on Dreamville's first compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers as "Golden Goals".[1]
In 2016, Kurzweil connected with Nigerian-American sister duo VanJess, with whom he would develop a close working relationship with[3] and would introduce him to a future collaborator, Masego.[4] [5]
In 2018, Kurzweil produced 3 songs ("Front Desk", "Infiniti+2", "PDA") on Bas' third studio album, Milky Way.[6] [7]
In 2019, Kurzweil participated the Revenge of the Dreamers III recording sessions in Atlanta, GA. [8] He co-produced "Sleep Deprived" featuring Lute, Omen, Mez, DaVionne.[9] Revenge of the Dreamers III was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
Later that year, Kurzweil produced Masego's single "Big Girls"[10] which went on to be featured on EA Sports FIFA 20 Official Soundtrack.[11]
In 2021, Kurzweil co-produced "When Love's Around" (featuring Syd) for former One Direction member, Zayn's third studio album, Nobody Is Listening. [12] Also that year, Kurzweil produced 2 songs for Cozz's EP, Fortunate.[13][14]
