Jason Blakemore also known as DJ Trance, was a prominent figure in the Southern California rave scene and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Los Angeles' rave culture.
Blakemore was actively involved with the now-famous Insomniac parties during the early days of the LA rave scene, performing at their seminal events in the early 1990s. He also played multiple times at the renowned Electric Daisy Carnival, cementing his place in the history of electronic music festivals. [1]
Performing under the alias DJ Trance until 1996, Blakemore then adopted his full name professionally. Over the years, he DJ'd at thousands of events across the United States and internationally.
In addition to his DJ career, Blakemore produced music under multiple aliases, including Rebirth in collaboration with Xpando. Together, they created several tracks, with Pure becoming a cherished anthem in the LA underground scene. He also released productions under his own name, Jason Blakemore, and his original DJ alias, DJ Trance. [2]
On September 23, 2023, he officially announced his retirement from DJing, sharing a heartfelt message on Facebook:
- "If you caught me at Nocturnal, you caught my last set.
- Thank you for the memories. Should have stopped long ago, but it is what it is. Memories here and there and everywhere.
- Plan on living another 40 years, but you won't see me spin again.
- Pinky swear ❤️. Love u."
DJ Name
Jason performed under the name DJ Trance from April 1992 to December 1996. He decided to transition to using his real name, Jason Blakemore, as the growing popularity and classification of trance music - a genre he did not play, caused confusion.
Post DJ Career
In 2014, Jason returned to school at Pepperdine University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2017. He now serves as a full-time Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Orange County Health Psychologists. [3]
