Patton was born and raised in Michigan.[1]

Patton started flying at age 16 after receiving the Mary von Mach Scholarship from the Michigan Chapter of The Ninety-Nines, Inc.[2] Janet went on to receive a charter of the Ambassador Chapter off the The Ninety-Nines, Inc. This chapter was the first to open by email.[3] Patton studied Aviation Management earning a bachelor degree and a Masters Degree in Technology Studies both at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.[4]

Career

Patton became a Certified Flight Instructor building hours and experience before becoming an airline pilot. Hired as a cargo pilot in 1991 at TransContinental Airlines, Patton then went onto Zantop International Airlines,[2] another cargo airline. After Zantop, Patton went onto Spirit Airlines and then American Airlines.[5][6] Janet's was Spirit Airlines first woman pilot in 1996 followed by the first woman Captain in 1998.[7] In addition to airline flying, she runs a Flight School/Hot Air Balloon Ride Company[8]

Personal Life

Patton lives in Denton, Texas.[9]She has two children.[10]
