Jane McCloskey is a British media executive, writer, consultant and life coach. In her executive career she held senior roles at ITV and the BBC. Since 1997 she has served as a trustee and non-executive director on fourteen boards including as the first independent board member of IOSH, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health[1] and Chair of the National Dance Company.[2] She currently works as a life and crisis coach.[3]

Television Career

McCloskey began her television career with HTV in 1982 at the age of 17, writing a script[4] for HTV's then head of drama, Peter Graham Scott, for his highly successful network children's drama series Into the Labyrinth.[5] Joining the BBC, she worked on the Pamela Armstrong Show, a chat show with celebrity guests that replaced Pebble Mill at One in 1986.[6] Between 1986 and 1992 she worked as studio director, assistant producer and then producer for numerous BBC network programmes including Daytime Live and Scene Today (both successors to Pebble Mill at One), People Today, The Travel Show Guides, Election Night Special and The Travel Show.[7] In 1994 she was appointed GMTV's Head of Features and Entertainment before becoming Director of Programmes at Carlton West Country in 1996[4][7] where she won a prestigious Royal Television Society award for best Outside Broadcast Live Event for Christmas With the Royal Navy.

As director of programmes for ITV West and Westcountry, McCloskey headed ITV's Regional Production Fund in 2005-2007, aiming to develop new talent and content from emerging and established out of London production companies.[8] Following successive acquisitions by Carlton and Granada Television,[9] McCloskey became managing director of both ITV West and ITV Westcountry,[10] leading the business change programme to merge ITV West and ITV Westcountry forming a new single ITV West Country region.[11]

Return to the BBC

Her return to the BBC in 2009 saw McCloskey first become Head of Regional and Local Programmes in the South-West[12] before becoming Head of Supplier Management linking online, tv and radio content for independent producers.[13] Her subsequent job title of BBC Transformation Engagement and Simplicity Project Lead caused newspaper comment[14] until she was appointed as the BBC's Director of Organisational Change.[15] In her time at the BBC McCloskey founded digital arts channel The Space[16] as a joint venture between the BBC and Arts Council England.[17]

McCloskey left the BBC to become Dean of Creative Industries and Professor of Broadcast Media at the University of South Wales where she oversaw the opening of the new Cardiff Creative Industries Campus by BBC Director General Tony Hall.[18]

Life Coaching

In addition to a non-executive role with the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital Trust[19] Jane McCloskey works extensively as a life and crisis coach, particularly with high-profile clients who suffer reputational damage.[3]
