Datuk Seri Jamil Bin Salleh (born 8 January 1959) started his career in Public Services in 1983 as a Senior Officer of Cultural Youth & Sports, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Malaysia. In 1986, He was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of Finance & Administration in the Ministry of Home Affairs and in 1991 became the Assistant Secretary of Procurement Division in the same Ministry. Over 13 Years in the Ministry of Home Affairs, he has served multiple roles from Assistant Secretary of different Departments (1986-1997) to Head of Planning & Development Unit of the Prison Department (2000-2004), Director of Development & Logistic, Prison Department (2004-2007), Director of Development & Procurement Division, Prison Department (2007-2009) and ended his service in The Ministry of Home Affairs as the Deputy Division Secretary of National Key Results Area (2009-2010).[1][2][3] He was appointed the Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Youth & Sports in 2010 and later on became the Secretary General of the same Ministry in 2013.[4] In 2016, Datuk Seri Jamil was promoted as the Secretary General of Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives & Consumerism[5], Malaysia to which he served up till his retirement in 2019[6][7].[2][3]

Early Life & Education

He was born on the 8th of January 1959 and is the 6th of 8 siblings. He went to school at St. Francis’s Institution (SFI), Melaka and concluded his tertiary Education with B.A Hons of Anthropology & Sociology in University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 1983. In 1986, he received his Diploma in Public Administration from Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN).

Jamil has also attended numerous short courses from various Universities & Institutions. He attended the “Management of Change and Conflict in Organization” course at the Asian Institute of Technology Bangkok, Thailand (1995), “Managing & Leading Strategic Change” course at the Royal Institute of Public Administration (RIPA) International, United Kingdom (2006), “Leadership Program on High Performance Government” course at the Madinah Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship in Madinah, Saudi Arabia (2011)[8] and the “Branding Leaders, Branding of Nation” Course at Said Business School, Oxford University, United Kingdom (2014).

Personal Life

Jamil is married to Dr. Asmah Binti Samat, a medical doctor by profession[9] and the couple are blessed with 4 children.

Current Life

Jamil is the current Chairman of Yayasan Chancellor Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Melaka (UTeM)[10][11] and De Metrology Sdn Bhd (DMSB)[12]. He is also a Board Member of Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam (DMDI) Melaka and is an Advisor (in Consumerism) to Majlis Belia Malaysia (MBM) and Malaysian Deaf Sports Association (MsDeaf).[2][3]
