Jamie Sharpe is primarily known as a Canadian author of five poetry collections:
Animal Husbandry Today (ECW, 2012) Cut-up Apologetic (ECW, 2015) Dazzle Ships (ECW, 2017) Everything You Hold Dear (ECW, 2020) Get Well Soon (ECW, 2024)
His first collection of poems, Animal Husbandry Today, remains as one of ECW’s all-time best selling poetry books.[1]
Dazzle Ships was short listed for the 2018 ReLit Award[2]
Style
Sharpe is sometimes grouped in with the Surrealist or Dadaist movements in that his poems resist rationalism.[3]
His work is frequently labeled as “absurd”[4]. [5]
Controversy
Critics have commented on potential misogynistic elements in Sharpe’s work, noting a “disregard for, (and/or) insensitivity toward women” and that “the poems don’t provide enough dimensions of women.”[6]
Sharpe was purportedly discovered nude, except for a backpack, in a New Brunswick ditch.[7]
Painting Career
Sharpe’s paintings were selected for a Jakarta exhibition, entitled “Works on Wood”, by The Paint Band and Jakarta Arts District Events.[8]
