James Stone (born June 5th, 1951) is an American glass and mixed media artist.[5][6][7][8] He is the founder and owner of Glass and Stone, a glass workshop and studio.[1][2][3][4][5] He was named the Handmade Entrepreneur of the Year by the Handmade Business Magazine in 2018.[7]

Overview

James Stone was born on June 5th 1951 in New York, the United States.[1][2] After completing his early education, Stone went to Fairleigh Dickensen University and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1974.[1][8] He then became interested in glassblowing in 1986 and attended Palomar College for applied design and glass[2], and later Pilchuk Glass School to learn paperweights with Paul Stankard in 1990. [3] In 2001, Stone founded Glass and Stone Studio in California, the United States, and since, serving as its lead owner and lead artist.[1] After establishing his business, he trained in the art of professional glass-making at Viccalo Studio, Van Nuys, California, in 2007. Stone then went to Eugene Glass School, Oregon, to study hot glass sculpture with Pino Signoretto in 2009. Later, in 2013, he attended the summer session at Pilchuk Glass School in Washington. Since 2014, he has started to conduct glassblowing classes at Glass and Stone. He was named the Entrepreneur of the Year by the Handmade Business Magazine in 2018.[7] His glass artwork has been displayed at several galleries and museums in California, including Zimmer Children’s Museums, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Gothhelf Art Gallery, and California Center of Arts.[7]
