James Mercer (Founder)

James Mercer (b. 1989) is a British-Ghanaian digital consultant and entrepreneur. He’s the founder of the social media platform, tayp.[1][2][3][4][5]

Early Life and Education

James Mercer was born in Croydon University Hospital and attended Orchard Park Academy (formerly known as Edenham High School). He also studied at Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast, Ghana and attended Keele University in the UK.[6]

Career

Mercer worked for Edelman, Freud Communications and WPP before founding the social media app, tayp. He claimed whilst working as a social media manager, he noticed how cruel people were through using impersonal platforms. Also, he claimed there is a lot of talking and not a lot of listening. He founded tayp, a bitesize voice social media platform to allow people to start listening to each other without interruption.[7][8]

Personal Life

Mercer was named after his grandfather, James Mercer II, a Ghanaian diplomat. His grandfather’s twin brother is Thomas Mends Kodwo Mercer, the first black Gold Coast High Commissioner of the United Kingdom. His great-grandfather is James Mercer I and his uncles and aunts consist of Professor Ernest Aryeetey, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Sally Hayfron and Frances Adu-Mante.[9][10][11]
