James Corcoran is the founder of the James Corcoran Gallery. He is a prominent contemporary art dealer and advisor whose career has spanned over 50 years. Corcoran has exhibited works by Ken Price, Ed Ruscha, and Joe Goode to name a few.
History
In 1971, James founded Corcoran & Corcoran in Coral Gables, Florida. He relocated to the West Coast in 1972 and established the James Corcoran Gallery in West Hollywood, California.
During this time, Corcoran partnered with Leo Castelli and Richard Feigen to found Castelli Feigen Corcoran. They exhibited the Joseph Cornell Portfolio from February 28 – March 20, 1976.[1] The James Corcoran Gallery relocated to Santa Monica in 1984 becoming one of the first to open its doors when the city became the new headquarters for the art scene.[2] He closed the gallery in 1992 and decided to pursue a new endeavor, C&M Arts, in New York.
He partnered with Maggie Kayne and Bill Griffin in 2011 to create Kayne Griffin Corcoran now known as Pace Gallery. They exhibited Present Tense by James Turrell from September 15 – December 17, 2011.[3]
