Jakov "Jaša" Ljotić (Smederevo, Kingdom of Serbia, 7 January 1895 - Munich, West Germany, 8 July 1974 [1]) was a Serbian and Kingdom of Yugoslavia air officer and diplomat.

Biography

He was born as the second son Vladimir Ljotić and younger brother Dimitrije Ljotić. He took part in World War I and fought on the Macedonian Front. There he became one of the first members of reorganized Serbian Army Aviation and was sent to study in France, as an air scout. In the group that went with him, there was also Tadija Sondermayer.

Jakov "Jaša" Ljotić spent some time after the war in military service and then decided on a diplomatic career.

After the death of his brother Dimitrije Ljotić, he continued to lead the Zbor movement in exile,[2]and in Munich he ran the Serbian publishing house Iskra and published an anti-communist magazine of the same name. Jakov Ljotić published his memoirs in 1967 under the title "Service in the Army and Participation in Wars".

He was murdered on 8 July 1974 in Munich, by agents sent by Josip Broz Tito|Tito's State Security Service, better known as the infamous UDBA [3] After his assassination, the leadership of Dimitrije Ljotić emigration (composed of former members of the Zbor and members Serbian Volunteer Corps (World War II)|SDK) was taken over by Vladimir Ljotić, the eldest son of Dimitrije Ljotić.
