Jake Lush McCrum (born 5 April 1993) is the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Rajasthan Royals, a professional franchise cricket team based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). McCrum is also the CEO of the Paarl Royals and Barbados Royals franchises.

Early life and education

Born in London, the eldest of the three siblings, McCrum grew up in a middle-class household in Somerset, England.His great great grandfather, William McCrum, invented the penalty kick in the game of football in 1890.[1][2]

Jake McCrum studied at Millfield Senior School in Somerset where he took up the subjects of Economics, Pre U History and Mathematics. He then attended the University of Leeds from 2011 to 2015 where he earned a First Class Bachelor of Science (BSc), Economics (International) degree, and was also awarded the Edward Elgar Prize for Monetary Economics 2014/15. He was also the captain of the university's hockey team. While an undergraduate, McCrum spent a year in the United States where he studied the core structure of Sports Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Career

McCrum's first professional job was as an events manager at Millfield Enterprises in July and August 2015.He then moved to London to take up a full-time role at Grove Capital Management as an analyst. Moving to Grove's parent company, Blenheim Chalcot, he worked as an investment analyst (January 2016 - May 2017) and then as an associate working on investments (June 2017 - August 2019). Blenheim Chalcot's owner, Manoj Badale, was also lead owner of the Rajasthan Royals, and in November 2017 McCrum was recruited to join the IPL franchise, initially as General Manager - Cricket Operations before being promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer in July 2019. He was then promoted to CEO of the franchise in July 2021.[3][4][5]

Personal life

Outside of business, McCrum plays tennis, football and cricket. He is 6 feet 7 inches tall.
