Jake Laser (born June 23, 1998) is an American engineer and internet personality known for his YouTube channel, JLaservideo.[1] He gained recognition for his recreations of Marvel superhero weapons and accessories, such as a functioning bouncing Captain America shield and Spiderman wall climbers.[2][3][4]

In the fall of 2019, Laser was awarded YouTube’s Golden Play Button for achieving one million subscribers.[5] As of 2023, JLaservideo currently has 3.5 million subscribers on YouTube and over 2.5 million followers on TikTok.[6] [7]

Early life and education

Laser is a Vermont native and attended Hanover High School, having graduated in 2016.[8] He became interested in engineering at a young age, noting.[9]

Laser earned a physics degree from St. Lawrence University in 2020.

YouTube career

Laser began posting tutorial videos on YouTube in 2012, demonstrating simple inexpensive builds for his audience. His videos often feature pop-culture inspired inventions and have gained recognition from popular media outlets like Sports Illustrated, Discovery, and Nerdist.[10][11]

In 2020, Laser moved to Los Angeles to focus on YouTube full-time. He has recently gained recognition for his large-scale projects.[12] In 2021, he chronicled his journey creating a liquid Venom suit using ferrofluid. The video received over 25 million views.[13] Laser has most recently gained attention for creating a working Spot suit, inspired by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse.[14] Laser's TikTok showing the suit received over 18 million views in less than two weeks.

Laser was nominated for a Streamy Award in 2022 in the Science & Engineering category.[15]

As of 2023, Laser has begun selling magnetic web-shooters on his website after fans expressed a desire to purchase his inventions.
