Jake came to prominence starring in the critically acclaimed hit BET series, The Quad[2], beside Tony-Winners Anika Noni Rose and Ruben Santiago-Hudson.[3] He is also known for the Netflix Original Sweet Girl starring Jason Momoa.[4]

Personal

Jake grew up in Dallas, TX before going to Cornell University where he played football all four years and studied theater and history[5].

Career

An up-and-coming hyphenate, Jake's performance both on screen and on the page in No Mans Land was highly regarded.[6] The Los Angeles Times described his performance as "the golden boy lost, who undergoes and odyssey as internal as it is external,"[7] and beautifully described the film as "an immigration tale told with empathy and humanity."[7] The New York Times applauded that "Allyn begins a slow and sensitive journey"[8], and the Chicago Tribune remarked "Jake Allyn proves to be a compelling enough screen presence to carry a feature."[9] Other film roles include the Netflix Original Sweet Girl beside Jason Momoa[4], and the Blumhouse horror-thriller Run Sweetheart Run[10]. His breakout role in TV came in playing a white quarterback from a racist family who is suddenly forced to attend an all-black college in "The Quad". On the BET series, from showrunner Felicia D. Henderson and Rob Hardy, Jake's character finds himself torn between his old family and the new one he's making on campus and within the team.[3].
