Jagath Gunawardana is an attorney-at-law, environmentalist[1] and educator based in Sri Lanka. He is known for his activism in protecting Sri Lanka's wildlife and the environment.
Early life and education
Gunawardana was born in 1961 in Sri Lanka. He completed a Diploma in Agriculture at the Aquinas University College[2] with first-class honours. Later, he went on to become a lawyer by graduating from the Sri Lanka Law College. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Jayawardenapura[3] for his contributions to environmental protection.
Activism
He is an advisor to the Environmental Foundation Limited[4] and a Senior Instructor of the Young Zoologist Association[5] where he volunteers to educate youth. His work has involved environmental policy amendments[6] and is a member of the National Environment Council of Central Environmental Authority (CEA).
