OccupationAstrologer

Jacob ben Tarik (fl. 8th-9th century) was a Hebrew astronomer and astrologer who in 777 founded a school for astronomical study in Baghdad.[1] The school eventually developed a high reputation and would go on to train and ultimately be administered by the Arab polymath Al-Kindi and later Abu Ma'shar al Balkhi.[2][3] Ben Tarik was part of a group of Jewish scholars whose work was promoted during the reign of Caliph Al-Mansur and is also credited with helping to translate Indian astronomical tables with respect to the Yuga Cycle.[1][4]
