Jacob Beranek (born 1998) is an American composer and pianist.
Biography
Beranek was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He graduated from University Lake School and received a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Vanderbilt University, where his teachers included Michael Alec Rose,[1] Michael Kurek, Michael Slayton, and Stan Link. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Composition from The Juilliard School, where he studies under John Corigliano.
Beranek served as the first-ever Composer-in-Residence of the Midsummer’s Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.[2] Recent performances of Beranek's music have taken place in London,[3] Prague,[4] Nashville,[5] and Philadelphia. His work has garnered international recognition in competitions such as The American Prize in Composition, the National Federation of Music Clubs Emil & Ruth Beyer Awards, and The Gesualdo Six Composition Competition,[6] in which he received first place for ages 21-and-under worldwide.[7] The European premiere of his Památník: Memorial for Wind Ensemble in Spanish Hall (Prague Castle) by the Band of the Castle Guards and the Police of the Czech Republic took place during the centenary celebrations of Czech independence, where he was honored by the American ambassador to Czechia, Steve King (ambassador).[8]
