Jack Donnelly is a scholar and teacher who lives and works in Denver, Colorado, USA.[1] He is the Andrew Mellon Professor and Distinguished University Professor in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver.[2] As a scholar,[3] he is best known for his work in international human rights. (His book Universal Human Rights in Theory and Practice[4] is one of the most cited works in that field. He is also the co-author of the widely used textbook International Human Rights.[5]) He also writes in the area of international relations theory. His most recent book is Systems, Relations, and the Structures of International Societies.[6]

Jack was born (August 5, 1951) and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, USA. He received his Bachelor's (1973) and Master's (1975) degrees from Georgetown University and a PhD (1982) from the University of California at Berkeley. Before moving to Denver in 1992, he taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the College of the Holy Cross. He has also held visiting professor positions in Uruguay, Costa Rica, Israel, Singapore, and Spain.

He is married to Katayoun Azizpour Donnelly, who works as an attorney in Denver (kdonnellylaw.com/). They have one son. His mother (Nancy) and brother (Jeffrey) live in Florida.
