Jacek Partyka (born 1973)[1][2] is a Polish translator, classicist and early printed book specialist[3]. Published translations of science, popular science, belles-lettres and spiritual books[4][5], from Italian, English, Russian, Latin and Ancient Greek[6][7][8]; authored many science and popular science articles[9], specially on monastic life and libraries (e.g. Cistercian[10], Domenican[11], Camaldolese[12] friars etc.) Formerly a deputy director of Jagiellonian Library[13]. Discovered one of the oldest surviving immunity passports, issued in Venice in 1578 for a Polish nobleman[14][15]; translated the oldest Polish-authored Christmas carol, from Latin to Polish, to be sang to medieval music[16].

He undertook his Ph.D. (2003) in literarary criticism at Jagiellonian University. His thesis was entitled Instrumentacja dźwiękowa w greckiej liryce indywidualnej epoki archaicznej ('Sound instrumentation in ancient Greek lyric poetry of archaic period')[17].

Camaldolese Hermits of Mount Corona spiritual heritage

Partyka published and translated works by Paolo Giustiniani (1476-1528)[5], a founder of Camaldolese Hermits of Mount Corona. Translated works (from Latin, Italian, Ancient Greek) are published by Tyniec Wydawnictwo Benedyktynów, as "Źródła Monastyczne" (Monastic Sources)[28][29]:

Theatre

Partyka's translation of Nikolai Gogol's short story "Viy" was used in a theatre play staged in Teatr Zagłębia in Sosnowiec Sosnowiec; the play premiered on November 21, 2014. The play was titled "Viy. Ukrainian horror"[33][34][35]
