J. Jaime Miranda (born 25 February 1976) is a Peruvian epidemiologist and public health researcher.[1]He was born in Chimbote, Peru,[2] and studied medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.[3] He earned MSc and PhD degrees in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Miranda was a Full Professor and founding Director of the CRONICAS Center of Excellence in Chronic Diseases[4] in Lima, Peru before relocating to Australia in 2020, where he is currently Professor and Head of the Sydney School of Public Health at the University of Sydney.[5][6][7]

Miranda's research focuses on chronic[8] and non-communicable diseases[9][10] in population health[11] including diabetes,[12] hypertension and cardiovascular health,[13] obesity, dementia[14][15] and mental health,[16] primarily in low- and middle-income countries[17] and has described himself as a 'doctor for populations'.[18] He participates in international working groups on non-communicable diseases, including the United Nations[19] and the World Health Organization. He has published over 500 scientific articles[20] and serves on editorial boards of several medical journals, including the British Medical Journal..[21]

Miranda is the only Latin American participating in the preparation of the UN's 2030 Global Sustainable Development Report[22][23] and was selected as one of the 'top 30 scientists under 40 redefining science in the Latinamerican region by latinamericanscience.org in 2014.[24]
