Isabel MacArthur (born 7 November 2002) is an American singer-songwriter from New York City. On the 8 November, 2024, she released her debut EP Blame It on a Bad Dream.

Life

Isabel Ryan MacArthur[1] was born on 7 November 2002,[3] and grew up in New York City.[4] In an interview with F-Word Magazine,[5] she notes that she's a Scorpio, and identifies with a lot of the traits from the sign.[6] She studied at boarding school Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.[7]

Career

Izzy in an interview with Melody of Music[8] said she didn't start out by writing music first. Her parents always told her she was a great creative writer, but the only instrument she played was the flute. Her musical experience was limited to doing covers through a music school and musical theatre.[9] In an interview with The C Word,[10] Izzy said

On May 3, 2024, Izzy announced her debut single "Misery Missing Company" would be released May 17, 2024.[11] She said in an Instagram post: "i wrote it about my (initial) dislike for LA, and all the emotions from a really chaotic portion of my life summed up into one event."[11] Following that, she released three singles "Sleepwalking" June 21, 2024, "Exit Wounds" August 9, 2024, and "Landmines" October 5, 2024 before announcing her debut EP Blame It on a Bad Dream would be released on November 8, 2024.[4][12][13]

Musical Influences

Izzy has described her sound as Pop, Indie Pop,[14] Indie Rock,[14] Alternative Pop,[13][4][15] and Pop Rock.[14] Her musical style has been tied to artists such as Natalie Imbruglia,[14] Nieve Ella,[16] Lorde,[17][12] Sam Fender,[12] and The 1975[15] in various reviews and interviews. Izzy has consistently cited bands like Fall Out Boy,[14] The Killers,[14] and Harry Styles[6] as artists that have influenced her sound. She has also named specific albums such as Damien Rice's album O (Damien Rice album)|O (2002), Ray LaMontagne's album Trouble (2004), and Bon Iver's Blood Bank EP (2009) as some of her favorite works.[14]
