Ivan Gennadyevich Sharapov (born 2 August 1981, Kolomna, Moscow Oblast, RSFSR) is a Russian pianist and music educator. He developed a pedagogical approach emphasizing physiological awareness in piano performance and has performed extended-duration solo concerts. a piano teaching method that emphasizes bodily awareness and the distribution of attention during performance. He also regularly performs long-duration solo piano marathons.

Biography

Sharapov was born into a family of an engineer and a university lecturer. He commenced piano studies at age nine.

He received his formal education at the following institutions:

  • 1996–2000: Academic Music College at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied under V. P. Fraenov.
  • 2000–2003: Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where his instructors included A. V. Samsonov and Yu. N. Kholopov.
  • 2009–2011: Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.

Since 2015, Sharapov has been professionally active in Russia and Thailand in the areas of music education and performance. His teaching subjects include piano, music theory, and vocals. His educational work includes programs for children with disabilities. He has organized concerts.[1] and masterclasses, including events associated with cultural exchange[2]. He also regularly participates in extended music sessions[3] lasting several hours.

  • In 2017, Sharapov performed a nine-hour concert[4] in Bangkok dedicated to the memory of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).
