ISO Oerlikon AG is a Swiss technology and trading company headquartered in Menziken, Aargau. The company specializes in the production and distribution of welding technology, cutting equipment, and industrial chemical products. Originally founded in 1933 as a manufacturer of electrodes, the company transitioned into a trading and development firm, rebranding as ISO Oerlikon AG in 2022 following the acquisition of distribution rights for Oerlikon Schweisstechnik products.[2]
History
Early years and manufacturing (1933–1990)
The company was founded in 1933 in Reinach under the name ISOFIRM AG. Upon its establishment, it became the first company in Switzerland to manufacture electrodes for shielded metal arc welding and gas metal arc welding.[3] In 1980, the company changed its name to ISO-Elektrodenfabrik AG Schweisstechnik to reflect its core business.
In 1988, the company relocated its headquarters from Reinach to Menziken. By 1982, the firm had transitioned into a family-owned business structure which it maintains to the present day.
Restructuring and product development (1991–2018)
In 1991, the company underwent a strategic restructuring. To focus on core business areas and international trade, the production of electrodes was relocated to France. Following this shift, the company expanded its product portfolio significantly in 1992 and began increasing export operations in 1994.[3]
The late 1990s marked a shift toward in-house product development. In 1997, the company introduced the ISOJET® Cleaner, a system designed for cleaning weld seams. This was followed in 2002 by the ISOJET® Pointer, a device for grinding Tungsten electrodes. Further proprietary products were launched in 2011, including the Hexacoat, Helix, and Surfinox lines.[3]
Recent developments and rebranding (2019–Present)
In 2019, the company became the general representative for Oerlikon Schweisstechnik in Switzerland. This partnership was established following the acquisition of the Oerlikon welding brand by Lincoln Electric USA.[3]
Reflecting this closer association with the Oerlikon brand, the company officially changed its name to ISO OERLIKON AG in 2022.[3][4]
