Ismail Elmokadem is an Egyptian-Canadian documentary filmmaker. His work includes the documentaries Pop Goes Islam (2011), an ARTE co-production that has aired on European public broadcasters including NRK and RTVE, and Democracy Camp (2012) for Al Jazeera English's Witness strand.
Career
Elmokadem worked as a news producer for Agence France-Presse (AFP) before moving into documentary filmmaking. He directed the documentary Pop Goes Islam (2011), a co-production between Alegria Productions and ARTE for Al Jazeera English's Witness strand. The film follows the Islamic music channel 4Shbab and focuses on its founder Ahmed Abu Haiba and the veiled model Yasmine Mohsen, who hopes to become a presenter on the channel. Pop Goes Islam has been broadcast on European public television, including NRK in Norway and RTVE's Documentos TV strand in Spain.
