Ira Tzourou (Greek: Ήρα Τζούρου) (born 13 February 1969) is a Greek-Armenian freelance journalist and researcher. She is known for her academic interests in nationalism, diaspora studies, and Armenian history. Tzourou has been actively involved in supportin her susband, Sevan Nişanyan, a well-known Turkish-Armenian writer and linguist, during his legal challenges.
Early years and education
Tzourou was born in Istanbul in 1969 to a Greek and Armenian family. She pursued her undergraduate education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, obtaining a degree in Fine Arts, with a focus on Islamic history and art.
Career, Contributions to Academia and Journalism
Tzourou has been a freelance journalist since 2010, contributing to various outlets, including Armenika GR. Her work has also appeared in notable publications such as Agos and nisanyanarmenian.com, where she has highlighted important historical and cultural landmarks in Turkey, particularly those related to Armenian heritage.
Personal Life
Tzourou is a researcher with academic interests in areas such as nationalism, diaspora studies, and Armenian history.[1]
On 5 May 2019 she married Sevan Nişanyan on Samos.[2] They have been vocal in advocating for Nişanyan's rights as he continues to face legal and political challenges.[3]
