Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (Malay: Institut Diplomasi dan Hubungan Luar Negeri, abbreviated as IDFR) is a training institution under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, established on 1 July 1991.[1]

The inception of the insitute dates back to a Cabinet decision on 6 March 1991, followed by its official establishment on 12 August of the same year, inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Originally positioned under the Prime Minister’s Department, IDFR was subsequently integrated into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 2004. IDFR is currently headed by Ambassador Dr Shazelina Zainul Abidin, a senior diplomat and assisted by a mixed cadre of trainers, research officers and administrators. Situated within the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the institute occupies the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' former building.[2]
