Infographics, a shortened combination of the words "information" and "graphics," are graphical visual representations of information, facts, or knowledge that are meant to deliver information in a way that is both swift and understandable. They are able to boost people's cognitive abilities by using images to increase the capacity of the human visual system to recognise patterns and trends. Activities such as information visualisation, data visualisation, statistical graphics, information design, and information architecture are all similar in nature. Due to the fact that infographics have developed over the last several years to serve the purpose of mass communication, they are developed with less assumptions about the knowledge base of the readers than other forms of visualisations. Isotypes are considered to be one of the first examples of infographics because of its ability to swiftly and simply communicate information to large audiences.
