Ilya Yurevich Shagalov (born on December 14, 1986) Russian stage director, video artist and film director.
A feature of his work is study of media technologies in a performative environment. Working between the intersection of contemporary art, multimedia and theatre.
Biography
Ilya Shagalov was born in 1986 in Krasnodar. Originally Ilya has a theatre eduction. During the study he participated in creation Video art by himself. As a student he became practice to work in Theatre.[1]
From childhood, he showed interest in the fine arts and technology. Graduated a musical education in piano.
In 2008 he graduated as Actor in Krasnodar State University of Culture and Arts, the course of Vladimir Rogulchenko, whom been a student of the legendary Anatoly Vasiliev. After graduating from the university, he entered the director's group of Kirill Serebrennikov's workshop in the Moscow Art Theatre School , from which the "Seventh Studio" subsequently grew.[2]
In 2013 he graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School (the course of Kirill Serebrennikov) and joined the troupe of Gogol Center.[3]

Professional activity
As a director Ilya Shagalov directed "The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls"[5] by Meg Miroshnik. On the Platform project he creates "Funny Dream"[6]. There, at Platform Project, he restored the play Fairies[7] which they released with director David Bobée in 2011 in Moscow Art Theatre. Since 2013, Shagalov works abroad, in France ("WE"[8] by Yevgeny Zamyatin), Estonia (Venus in Furs[9] by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch), and other countries.
Since the opening of Gogol Center, Ilya Shagalov has been a regular collaborator and co-creator of Kirill Serebrennikov's productions. From dramatic productions: Voiceks[10] in the Latvian National Theatre to opera productions of "Salome"[11] (Staatsoper Stuttgart[12]); Il Barbiere Di Siviglia[13] (Komische Oper Berlin); Così fan tutte[14] (Zürich Opera House|Opernhaus Zürich); Decameron[15] (Deutsches Theater (Berlin)
Ilya exploring the new language of theater in multimedia: "The Fairies"[16] production created in 2020 during lockdown. "Kleines Requiem"[17] for Deutsches Theater (Berlin)|Deutsches Theater Berlin; and digital performance "Hikikomori"[18] for Jager Night Embassy[19]
For last couple years Ilya making his debut movie. The project is frozen due to the political situation in Russia. In 2022 The director left the country.
