Ildar Ibragimovich Galeyev (Russian: Ильдар Ибрагимович Галеев; born 22 April 1966, Tashkent, Uzbekistan) is a Russian art historian, art critic, publisher, and an expert on the early 20th-century Leningrad School of Art movement[1] . He is the founder and curator of Galeyev Gallery in Moscow, Russia. [2]
Galeyev is an author of over 40 publications focusing on the art of Russian and Central Asian artists and photographers of the Soviet Union in the 1920s-1930s.
Life and Career
Ildar Galeyev was born on April 22, 1966, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His fascination with art began with exploring the artwork of Nicholas Roerich.[3] He graduated with a Law degree from Kazan State University in 1990[4].
In 2002, Galeyev began his career as an art gallery director and curator at the Art Divage gallery (2002-2005) in the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow. In 2005, he founded Galeyev Gallery, a gallery focusing on the lesser-known names in the early 20th-century Russian art. He also serves as an expert in the 20th-century Kazan School of Art and Central Asian photography.
Galeyev focuses his research and mission as the discovery of the previously unknown and understudied artists of the Pre-War Russian Art School (1920-1945), specifically, "the names of the seminal figures in art who are undeservedly placed on the periphery of the public interest."[5]
Previously, Galeyev served as an expert and appraiser of Russian Art for MacDougall's and Bonham's auction houses in London.[6] Currently, Galeyev serves as the chairman of the Moscow Club of Book Collectors.[7]
He is the recipient of the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts and The Art Newspaper Russia Award for “The Book of the Year” (for his publication of a two-volume work, The School of Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin (1920-1930s)(2015)[8]
