Angelo Ariel Smith, professionally known as Ibru, is a Bahamian American Reggae artist list. In 2018, he released his first major single called "Pinnacle". The song talks about Ibru rising above the negativity of others, proving his critics wrong and standing on the pinnacle of life. After the success of this song, some of his fans starting calling him the "Pinnacle Boss". Since 2018, Ibru has become a key act under the Kohanim Records Label. His last single of 2020 called "Control" made notable marks. The song made the Itunes Singles Top Ten Reggae Charts in the USA, Canada and UK.

Early Life

Ibru was born in Hollywood, Florida to two Bahamian parents, [1] who travelled to Florida for the birth, this was because Ibru’s mom was very sick during the pregnancy which threatened the both of their lives. They travelled to see a specialist who made the delivery. Shortly after they returned to the Bahamas where he grew up. Ibru spent most of his early years on South Andros island before moving to Nassau where he completed high school. He started writing music during high school.

Career

Military Career

In 1998 Ibru enrolled in the US Army . His military occupation specialty in the Army was 15T Blackhawk helicopter mechanic and crew chief. He spent two years in the 5th Battalion of the 101 Airborne Division and his last three and a half years with 1st Battalion 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment (Night Stalkers) at Fort Campbell North, Kentucky, with whom he deployed to Iraq as apart of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He left the Army in 2004 at the rank of Sergeant. While in the Army he continued working on his music by writing and performing at local venues.

Civilian Career

After honorably discharging from the military in 2004[2] . Ibru was looking for a career to help fund his music dreams. He worked for three years as a military defense contractor working on helicopters. He then enrolled in flight training at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Florida to become a commercial pilot. He graduated with a bachelors in Aeronautics in 2009. He later completed his Master Degree in Leadership at Nova Southeastern University in 2015.

In 2011 Ibru started taking his music very seriously as he started working with Delroy Harrison (Doctor Marshall) a prominent producer and engineer out of Jamaica. Doctor Marshall was the engineer behind the billboard topping song Boombastic by Shaggy [3], Ibru spent time on and off over a three year period working with Doctor Marshall at Anchor Studios in Jamaica. He consistently worked at improving the skills while releasing singles. In 2018 he started getting recognition when his single “Pinnacle” was featured on the Reggae compilation album “Tropical House Cruises To Jamaica Deluxe Edition” with other prominent reggae artists like Capleton and grammy award winner Mykal Rose. In December 2019 Ibru released his first EP “I’m so focused” The EP featured a song with Ibru and [4] called “Stop the Violence” produced by Dre Swade Production and released un the the Kohanim Records Label based in Orlando, Florida. In 2020 Ibru’s song Microwave, was featured on the Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica “Reggae Collector’s Edition”. This compilation album peaked at number 16 on the Billboard compilation albums. Ibru continues to work under the Kohanim record label as he currently resides in the Orlando area.
