Ian Reid (Artist) (born January 31, 1977) is an American artist, director, and former skateboarder known for his skateboarding films and visual arts.

Biography

Reid was born in Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He began skateboarding at a very early age and became a regular at the Brooklyn Banks. He was sponsored by Infamous Skateboards and later by Aesthetics Skateboards. In 1999, he created the first version of his film "Sex Hood Skate & Videotape" on VHS, featuring prominent skateboarders from the 1990s and 2000s. The film gained a cult following and influenced various lifestyle brands and skateboard companies. A few skateboarders featured in the film are Brian Wenning, Andrew Reynolds, Stevie Williams, Danny Way, P.J. Ladd and BAM to name a few. Reid re-released the film on DVD in 2006.

Artistic Career

Reid's transition from skateboarding into visual arts has been marked by significant achievements in photography and film. His work is characterized by its exploration of urban life and the human condition. He has held exhibitions at various prestigious venues, including the Museum of the City of New York and the Southampton Arts Center.
