Ian Carter is a British businessman and executive officer. He currently serves as chairman of Watches of Switzerland.
Education and career
Carter was born in Stockton, United Kingdom. He graduated in business administration and management from the University of West London. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in business administration and management by the University of West London.[1][2]
In 2006, he joined Hilton Group as CEO of Hilton International Co.[3] From 2006 to 2020, served as a president of Hilton. In 2018, he signed an agreement with Al-Habtoor Group to rebrand the Al-Habtoor properties in United Arab Emirates.[4][5][6][7]
In 2020, he was appointed as non-executive chairman of Watches of Switzerland.[2] In 2024, he made an insider purchase of Watches of Switzerland shares worth 188,000 GBP.[8][9] Subsequently, in 2024, he was named chairman of Eataly, the largest Italian marketplace globally.
In 2022, Boston University's School of Hospitality Administration appointed him to the position of chairman of the advisory board.[10]
He is the sponsor of the Carter Foundation Scholarship at the University of West London.[11][12]
Accolades
In 2021, he was selected as the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Speaker by Boston University.[13] Additionally, the University of West London granted him an honorary doctorate recognized for his contributions to the hospitality industry.[1]
