Bloom’s visual-art catalogue includes paintings and photographs made between 2008 and 2022. He also writes, performs, produces, and arranges his own rock music; writes, directs, produces, photographs, and performs in his own films; and is the author of sixteen books.[2]

Early life

Bloom was born on February 15, 1990, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.[3] Bloom studied art history at Columbia University at sixteen and comparative literature at UC Berkeley at seventeen before graduating from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Career

Visual art

Bloom’s visual-art catalogue comprises paintings and photographs made between 2008 and 2022. His photographs include Head of War, Paris and a five-work group made in Chicago in 2016. His paintings include early works made in New York and the Road works made in Los Angeles and New York.[4]

Music

Bloom writes, performs, produces, and arranges his own recorded music, including vocals, guitar, and bass. His first released studio album, Swagger, was recorded in 2024 and released on August 14, 2025. The album contains ten tracks.[5][6]

His recording catalogue also includes Laid, Swagger II, Swagger III, Golf, Know, and Meet Ian Bloom. Golf, a ten-track instrumental rock album, was released September 4, 2026. The remaining projects are recorded but unreleased.[2]

Film and performance

Bloom writes, directs, produces, photographs, edits, and performs in his own films. Driver, a 23-minute short released in 2016, was written, directed, produced, photographed, edited, and performed by Bloom.[7][8]

Star Vehicle, produced in 2025, is an 82-minute feature in which Bloom performs the dual leading roles of the Star and the Suit. The film is completed but unreleased and is listed by MUBI.[9][10]

King is a 65-minute silent neo-noir feature in which Bloom plays an art dealer. Big Time is a one-man feature set in New York, with Bloom as the sole on-screen performer in the role of the Gangster. Both films are in post-production.[11][12]

Star Vehicle (2026), produced in 2025, is an 82-minute feature in which Bloom performs the dual leading roles of the Star and the Suit. The film is released and is listed by MUBI.[13]

Writing and publishing

Bloom’s long-form catalogue began with The Western Road, written in 2011. His subsequent work includes fiction, screenplays, interviews, poetry, and philosophical prose. Screwdriver was first published in paperback in 2016 and was followed by Natural Press hardcover editions of Screwdriver, Savage Recreation, and Raw Canvas in 2024 and King Kong in 2025. A larger hardcover program issued in 2026 brought his published catalogue to sixteen books[14][2]

The first four Natural Press hardcovers were reviewed by Kirkus Reviews through its Kirkus Indie program. The reviews were mixed and characterized the books as experimental, genre-mixing works. Raw Canvas received a “Get It” verdict.[15] The review of King Kong highlighted its highly specific introspection and philosophical digressions, noting that these elements were likely to divide readers.[16][17][18][19]
